Coming out of CES, there was a suite of new innovations from smart cities to pets to food and everything in between. However when we bring up innovations that are happening in the bathroom, questions on whether the change is needed?
While the bathroom hasn’t changed in 100 years if it ain’t broke why fix it? I think the bathroom is broken and here are 3 obvious problems.
Cleaning The Bathroom Sucks.
There is no elegant way to say that the entire premise of cleaning the bathroom sucks. As the room is one of the most frequented rooms in the home and contains a mixture of creams & plumbing, the room needs to be cleaned frequently. From the nature of how showers, toilets, and sinks are used, tough chemicals are needed to clean the room. Despite using tough chemicals, the cleanliness of the room lasts at most one week before the room begins to decay again into a mess. While housekeeping service helps, it is extremely expensive and there is a need to clean daily to keep the room presentable.
Bathrooms Break and Fixing It Is a Mystery
From frequent use and running water through pipes, eventually, something breaks in the bathroom. A shower drip, a toilet that doesn’t flush, to a pipe eventually cracking. Despite these frequent problems, when something breaks it is a mystery to only those trained in the art of plumbing, aka plumbers. These masters of plumbing are extremely expensive and involve waiting around for hours to show up – which results in usually a vacation day wasted on a broken toilet.
Improvements Are Ridiculously Hard
You finally got sick of your broken toilets, sub-par shower, and hard to maintain space? Welcome to the renovation land. The average cost to renovate a bathroom is $10,000 and takes several months to complete. If you have only 1.5 baths in the home, this is completely unreasonable unless you want to shower at the neighbor’s house. Finally, when the renovation completes, you find that your once dependable toilet is now a water-saving toilet that seems to clog more frequently and be less dependable than what you had.
The bathroom is where most of our days begin and these problems prevent us from having a great start to the day. It’s time innovators look again at the bathroom and consider how to make the space Shine.
