In this busy modern world, it is important to remember to take care of our basic. It’s very easy to lose sight of ourselves when we’re surrounded by technologies and the fast-moving world. Thus, having a good self-care routine is crucial for our mental and physical health. It will also help us foster good relationships with other people. Here are some tips we can use to care for ourselves.
A Healthy Diet
Your diet should be about listening to your body and consuming nutritious food that will boost your energy. Having a balanced diet with non-processed food makes you feel better. A good macro ration would be 45–65% calories from carbs, 20–35% from fats and 10–35% from protein.
The physical benefits of exercise have been recognized for a long time. Recently, people start to understand the positive impact exercise has on mental health. 30 minutes of physical activity a day is enough to get the endorphins running around your body and give you a sense of achievement–both great for self-care. Don’t force yourself to do something that you hate. Find an activity that puts a smile on your face such as dancing to your favorite songs or taking a walk in the woods!
Most people need 7-8 hours of good sleep to work in a healthy way. Not only does your body needs sleep to relax and refresh, but it’s also processing everything that happened that day. This is important for self-care and mental health. Our capacity to manage our emotions is dramatically reduced when we are sleep-deprived. Sleep is the foundation of human health. Go to bed an hour earlier than usual and read a book instead of scrolling through your phone. Sprinkle some lavender oil on your pillow for extra special self-care!
You can practice mindfulness anywhere, even on your way to work–and that’s a huge part of self-care. The whole point of mindfulness meditation is to be present and to encourage yourself to be focused on your breathing and your body. Something you can do today: meditate while you’re making a cup of tea! Focus on the boiling sound of the kettle, how the water changes.
Friends and Family
Isolation has a negative impact on your mental well-being. Spending quality time with close friends and family is a great way to care for yourself. Write a list of the ten people who made you happy and enriched your life. Then schedule times to periodically catch up with each of them throughout the year.
