Most water on earth is salt water, and most fresh water is locked in ice. Water that we can use is very limited and saving water is crucial for the environment and us humans. Today, Shine is going to show you some great ways to save water.
Turn Off the Taps
Don’t let your water use spin out of control. Save 1.5 gallons of water a minute by turning off your tap while you brush your teeth. Fix leaky taps to stop 16 gallons of water going straight down the drain every week.
Fix Silent Leaks
A Toilet silent leak can waste up to 200 gallons every day and 1 in 5 toilets has a silent leak! Changing the flapper valve is usually what you need to do to fix a silent leak. You can test if you have a silent leak here or have a smart bathroom assistant such as Shine to help you diagnose and fix your toilet.
Take Shorter Showers
You use up to 4.5 gallons of water every minute you shower. Set a timer on your phone to keep your showers fresh and short. Switching to an efficient showerhead would allow you to use less water.
Wash More Clothes at Once
Washing a full machine load of clothes uses less water and power than 2 half-loads. Be sure to watch a big basket of dirty clothes every time.
Eat Seasonal Veggies
Producing meat and dairy uses a lot of water. Cutting down meat and dairy consumption and eating organic vegetables will help conserving water. You’re also going to help protect the environment since the meat and dairy industries are major contributors to global warming.
Use a Dishwasher
If you have a dishwasher, use it! Nobody likes to wash dirty dishes and using an Energy Star certified dishwasher can save you 5000 gallons of water every year. Just make sure you’re always washing dishes in a full load.
Water Your Plants Better
Water outdoor plants early in the morning or at the end of the day to prevent the water from quickly evaporating in the heat. Only water the soil so the water goes straight to the roots where it is needed.
